What actually goes wrong
Common forklift failures
Will not lift, or lifts slowly
The most common call. On electric trucks it is usually power before it is hydraulics: battery state under load and charger output, measured before anything else gets blamed. After power the chain runs control valve, lift cylinder, then pump. A truck that lifts fine cold and poorly warm is telling you something different again.
Mast chains and wear pads
Chains stretch, pads wear, and the mast starts to chatter, bind, or sit unevenly. These are maintenance items with measurable limits, not mysteries, and catching them at the measurement stage keeps them from becoming a mast job.
Hydraulic leaks and drift
Weeping fittings, tired cylinder seals, and forks that settle under load. Forks that settle are a load-holding problem, and load-holding problems get fixed, not watched. Where it leaks narrows what it is, which is why a photograph helps.
No start and electrical faults
Cranks and will not start on engine trucks, or dead controls on electric ones. Both usually trace back to grounds, relays, connectors, and tired harnesses rather than to the expensive component people fear. Battery cables are a frequent and unglamorous culprit.
Brakes, steering, and drive
Brakes that do not hold on a grade, steering that has gone heavy or vague, and drive that hesitates. On a machine that spends its life turning in tight aisles, steer and drive components wear on a schedule of their own.
Controls and safety systems
Seat presence sensing, horn, lights, and the interlocks that decide whether the truck will move or lift at all. A truck refusing to function is often protecting itself, and the first job is deciding whether it is faulted or behaving correctly.
