Preventive maintenance // Germantown, Wisconsin

Scissor lift maintenance that keeps machines off the repair list.

Preventive maintenance checks the parts that wear out (batteries, hydraulic oil, pothole guards, tires and controls) while the machine still works, so the fix stays small and you pick the day.

Scissor lifts, boom lifts, and forklifts. At your site in southeastern Wisconsin, or in the Germantown shop.

Before the fault

Small signs come first

A scissor lift seldom quits without warning. The battery takes longer to charge. The deck creeps down overnight. A pothole guard drags on one side. Each of those is a small job while it is only a sign, and a bigger one once it stops the machine in the middle of the work.

Maintenance is how the signs get caught on a day you choose.

Scissor lifts

What a scissor lift service covers

Batteries and charging. Water level and terminals on flooded packs, cable ends checked for corrosion, and the charger watched through a full cycle. Each battery gets measured while it works, since a resting reading hides a weak cell.

Hydraulic oil and filters. Oil level and condition, the return filter, and every hose and fitting along the stack checked for weeping. A damp fitting is a wrench and a seal. A deck that sinks with a load on it is a cylinder.

Pothole protection and limit switches. The guards have to drop and lock each time the deck goes up, and the switches that confirm it have to read true. Grit, rust, and bent brackets are the usual trouble.

Scissor stack and chassis. Pins and bushings at each arm joint, the slide blocks the arms ride on, and the welds and fasteners on the base. Grease goes where the manual calls for it, and no further.

Tires and casters. Solid tires checked for chunking and flat spots, caster bearings for play, and the drive motors and brakes for drag.

Controls and manual lowering. Platform and ground controls run through every function, the enable switch and horn tested, and the manual lowering valve proven to bring the deck down from the ground.

Fault code history. Stored codes get read and written down even when the machine runs fine today. A code that keeps coming back is a failure on its way.

Boom lifts

What changes on a boom

Boom lift maintenance starts with everything above and adds the parts that reach. Wear pads between the boom sections get measured, because a worn pad lets the boom sag and chatter as it extends. Pins and bushings at every pivot get checked for play. The angle, length, and load sensors get compared against what the machine reports. Platform rotation and self-leveling get run through their full range.

The turntable bearing and its bolts, the jib, and the hoses and cables that run the length of the boom all get a close look. On engine machines, oil, filters, coolant, and belts are part of every service. When a check finds something already failing, it becomes boom lift repair, with the findings written down first.

Forklifts

Forklift preventive maintenance

Forklifts get the same treatment: mast chains and rollers, forks and heels, hydraulic hoses, brakes, and the battery or the engine, depending on the truck. A chain gets measured for stretch while it is still inside its limit. Propane trucks get the regulator, hoses, and fittings checked. Electric trucks get the same battery and charger work as a scissor. A real fault moves to forklift repair.

Inspections

Where maintenance fits

Pre-start check

The operator, before each shift. A walk around and a function test, a few minutes long.

Frequent inspection

A deeper look between annuals. The busier the machine, the sooner it comes due.

Annual inspection

Every 12 months, by a qualified person, with a written record. See annual inspections.

Maintenance

The work between them that keeps each one short. The annual inspection guide covers what each check looks at.

How it runs

Built around your machines

Tell us the fleet. Models, serial numbers, hours, and how hard each machine works. That decides what each one needs and when.

Shop or site. Service runs at your site in southeastern Wisconsin or in the Germantown shop. The shop accepts machines from anywhere, and parts ship everywhere.

Findings first. Each machine comes back with a written list of what was checked and what was found. Anything beyond the service itself comes to you with the cost, and nothing extra gets done until you say yes.

A record per machine. What was checked, measured, and replaced goes on file by serial number. Annual inspectors ask to see that history.

Questions

Maintenance questions

How often should a scissor lift be serviced?

The service schedule in the manufacturer's manual for your model is the starting point. Tell us how your machines are used and the shop will set up maintenance around that. From there, how many hours the machine runs and how rough the job site is decide how often it comes in.

Is maintenance the same as the annual inspection?

No. The annual inspection looks over the whole machine and ends in a written record. Maintenance is the work in between: fluids, filters, batteries, adjustments, and worn parts replaced before they fail. A machine that has been maintained usually gets through its annual with a short list.

Can the maintenance happen at our site?

Yes, across southeastern Wisconsin. Machines can also come into the Germantown shop. The shop accepts machines from anywhere, and parts ship everywhere.

Do you maintain forklifts too?

Yes. Forklift service covers the mast chains and rollers, the forks, the hydraulics, the brakes, and the battery or the engine, depending on the truck.

What should we send to get started?

A list of the machines: brand, model, serial number, rough hours if you have them, and where each one works. Photos of the data plates save a phone call.
